Hedgehogs

The weather is turning colder and the hedgehogs are thinking of hibernating but there are a lot of small hogs and hoglets around who will not make it through the winter.  If you see a hedgehog out in the day, it is ill and needs to be picked up and brought in and likewise if you see a small hog.  They need to weigh 650g or 1 1/2 lbs to survive the winter.  In either of these cases, put the hedgehog in a high sided box with scrunched up newspaper. You can give it water (NOT milk) and a little dog or cat food (meaty).  Keep it warm and give me a call on 01437 779461.  PLEASE do not leave the hedgehog out there.  People have a habit of putting them under a hedge for safety and some try to look after them but they are good at hiding their problems and this means we lose valuable time before starting treatment. That time can mean the difference between life and death. They also need to be kept warm, not left in a box or bucket in the garage.  It is rare for them to have fleas so there is no danger to anyone or anything through bringing them indoors for the few hours before we can arrange for it to come here.

    1. A young lady who used to work at Pets at Home asked to do a photoshoot and this was one of them. I have had a calendar made and packs of notelets and I have them on mugs, coasters, bags etc. They are wonderful pictures
