Baby and Juvenile Hedgehogs
Like the post about badgers, hedgehogs are being born now. Mothers do NOT normally come back to collect stray babies. They have usually been chucked out and need picking up and keeping very warm right away. If a nest has been disturbed, it is best to cover it and watch for a few hours to see if Mum returns. If she doesn't, then collect all babies. Young hedgehogs seen out in the day with no adult should be picked up and kept warm then call for help. A lot of people try to feed them dog food and say they are eating when they are only trampling the food and maybe licking it but not actually eating it. Please remember, where there is one baby, there may be others so cast a look around. My number for advice, help and the taking in of hedgehogs is 01437 779461
