Had a VERY strange happening at Pembrokeshire Hogspital. A hedgehog was found running wildly in circles in a sheep field. He went first one way then another so we knew he wasn't blind as they go in one direction only. His legs, body and reactions seemed ok  but he had some very off damage areas to his prickles. He recovered quickly, ate well and put on weight. I could only think of one thing that MIGHT mark his prickles this way - talons. I mentioned this on Facebook, saying that it would be very unusual, and one of the Hogspital page followers said he had seen a Red Kite pick one up and then drop it.  He posted the pictures. Upon investigation, it does appear that his photos are most likely to be of Horatio, the hedgehog who was brought in to me. No wonder the poor thing was confused and running wildly and how on Earth did it survive a drop like that? Their prickles are very tough.

  1. I have been living near Brawdy for 6 years and have seen no Hedgehogs around here till a few weeks ago. In the last few weeks I have seen 4, two dead, all on the local roads. Are they on the increase??
