Mining bees

Mining bees have suddenly appeared in the garden on the bank and by the dry stone walls.
These are Yellow-legged Mining Bees but we also have a different black one which I haven't identified yet.(see last photo)



And now another one - bigger with a tawny thorax:

  1. The bee in the third photo appears to be Andrena cineraria. The males appear before the females.Keep an eye out for the cuckoo bee Nomada lathburiana when the females are about.
    The final photo is probably Andrena thoracica. There are two cuckoo bees that parasitise this species: Nomada goodiana and N. fulvicornis.
