Flying insects identification
Can anyone identify the flying insects in this image - taken from the Heron Hide at Teifi Marshes reserve? Thanks
These are definitely Adela reamurella, a species of 'Longhorn' micromoths. They make a lovely sight dancing in the sun; usually around Oak or Hazel branches. I don't know why these trees as the foodplant of A.reamurella is unknown.
Hi Tommy
ReplyDeleteLooks like one of the "fairy" moths - probably a green longhorn.
It's the right time of year and they tend to group.

Correcting my spelling: There should be another 'u' in reaumurella.
ReplyDeleteIdentification good; orthography bad!
Thanks for all that good identification work - I have had further confirmation of 'adela reaumurella' - I did not think of moths!
